MEMORIAL SENIOR ATTENDS HER FIRST HOMECOMING DANCE

As the school year kicks off, anticipation for the annual homecoming dance is built at Memorial High School. Senior Sareli Luna shared her thoughts on why she attended this year's event.

"It's my senior year, and I had always known I would go to my senior year homecoming or prom," Sareli explained with a smile. For many students like Sareli, attending homecoming during their senior year is a long-anticipated event.

While excited about the upcoming dance, she confessed to feeling a mixture of nerves. She acknowledged that one of the most challenging aspects for her would be the number of people at the event. "Most people would feel better dancing in a crowd rather than dancing out in the open," Luna said. Having familiar faces around, whether on a date or with friends, can make the experience more enjoyable and comfortable.

Homecoming, according to Luna, is a time to hang out and have a good time. She is looking forward to attending with a group of friends, and they even went dress shopping together to help each other pick the perfect attire. Sareli mentioned that it has become a trend or tradition for students to go out to eat before or after the dance, though only some follow this ritual.

In the lead-up to the homecoming dance, MHS organizes a week filled with events. However, she plans to forge her own path, partly because none of her family members have ever attended a school dance. She jokingly said she hoped the DJ played the band "Artic Monkeys" during the dance.
