FLAMES HOLD MINI-CAMP
By Vanessa Diaz
The Memorial High School Flames brought smiles and inspiration to aspiring dancers with their Mini Flame Camp. The Mini Flame Camp marked a significant milestone for the Flames as it was their first camp as a whole team. The excitement in the air helped prepare the group to share their love for dance with eager young girls.
Karmen Nixon, an 11th grader at Memorial High School and one of the social officers of the Flames shared her experience as a fundamental part of the camp. She described the day as “cute” and said she thoroughly enjoyed helping the young dancers. What touched her heart even more was the seriousness with which the girls asked for assistance from the older girls; their faces lit up with joy as they perfected their moves with the Flames.
Watching the mini flames perform during the game day was an emotionally fulfilling experience for Karmen and her fellow teammates. As they were dancing with the little dancers giving their all on the field, it was like seeing a reflection of their own journey in dance. The Mini Flames had the opportunity to experience the same rush and excitement they feel every time they step on the field for a halftime show.
Karmen Nixon had some valuable words of encouragement for the Mini Flames and aspiring young dancers. She emphasized that it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous before a performance. Still, she wanted them to know that it was okay. Her advice was clear: “Go big as you can, or if possible, go even bigger.” With their experience and guidance, the Flames served as an example of inspiring the little dancers to reach for the stars. The Flames want the Mini Flames to remember that no matter the field size, they have the power to go far with their passion, dedication, and belief in themselves.
